Guam – The design-build team of Jacobs and Hensel Phelps Construction Co. completed the handover of Naval Base Guam’s first LEED — Leadership in Energy and Environment Design — Gold building. The team encountered a number of challenges, including “a few pieces of ordnance that were discovered, a couple crane challenges that we handled early on, even the discovery of a few armed WWII Japanese remains that we unearthed during the construction process,” said Cpt. Peter Lynch, commanding officer of Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Marianas which oversees facilities contracting, acquisition and maintenance for the Navy on Guam. “We got through all of that and this project was completed ahead of schedule, on budget and without any lost time accidents.” Partnering for this project was facilitated by Neal Flesner of Ventura Consulting Group.
