“The City of Anaheim has achieved significant cost savings and other benefits through partnerships formed with designers, architects, and contractors, for the state-of-the-art ARTIC. Due to the implementation of the ‘From Good to World Class’ partnering process, hallmarks of this project are common goals and open communication. Without such collaboration, we would not be experiencing the extraordinary results in productivity currently underway.”

Project Description

Supporting more than 10,000 daily passengers among 10 different transportation modes, the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) provides various transit, dining, retail and entertainment functions, while increasing mobility and access to attractions and business centers throughout Anaheim and Southern California. The iconic structure, which lights up in various colors at night, features a complex curved exterior shell comprised of 200,000 square feet of ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) and glass cladding. It is touted as the largest ETFE project in North America, and the American Institute of Steel Construction described it as the most complicated steel structure ever attempted.

VCG’s “From Good to World Class” partnering methodology helped ensure project success for multiple stakeholders. As part of this approach, the project team identified and achieved or exceeded 10 common goals related to schedule, safety, quality, budget, community engagement, local employment, neighbor and ballpark visitors, sustainability and submittals.
